Portable Garage and Carport Advantages – Automotive Service
What are some of the advantages of a portable garage or carport? If you already have a built-in garage with your house, a portable garage can be like an additional shed for storing tools and other seasonal supplies and can give your vehicles more space. But, what about if you don’t have a standard garage and have plenty space around your house? Purchasing a portable garage can be one tenth of the cost to create a standard garage from bricks and cement – and a permit isn’t needed. Whether it’s a sedan, SUV, RV, or even a boat, a portable garage or carport can cover it. Consider it an affordable alternative to a regular garage – especially one large enough for multiple vehicles. The portable garage actually dates back to 1908, when Sears Roebuck started offering the product. In the early days of the automobile, a family still needed a movable structure for protecting a car from the snow and rain. However, the first portable garage models by Sears and Roebuck were made of wood sticks and panels or metal pipe and pre-fabricated textiles. Now portable garages are often made of steel and a polyethylene canopy for strength and durability. In addition, the polyethylene canopy is treated on both sides to be UV resistant and, in some cases, to be an anti-fade, anti-fungal, and anti-aging material. UV treated fabric comes in three protection grades: standard, medium, and commercial. Plastic is also used in cheaper covers but, after years of exposure to the cold, it becomes brittle. Modern metal and polyethylene canopies are also tear resistant and, in some cases, can stand up to heavy amounts of snow and winds totaling 95 MPH.
